BabyScan Review

Hey dolls,

So as I've mentioned in some of my pregnancy update posts, we found out the gender of our little bean through a gender scan in the Baby Scan clinic in Ballincollig, Cork.

BabyScan have clinics in Cork, Dublin and Derry. The scans available are early pregnancy scan, gender scan, 3D and 4D scans, and reassurance scans.

I had my 20 week appointment in the hospital on 3rd July. I presumed I'd be told the gender of our baby during this appointment. I got very anxious during the appointment because I wasn't sure if I'd get a scan done at all. When I did I didn't think to ask about the gender because I was worried about baby's movement's (there was no need this early!). Anywho I wasn't told the gender and got quite upset because we were going on holiday with my parents the next week and I wanted to get the baby something nice! I ended up getting Winnie and Piglet from Tesco!!

Anyway, so before we left for our holiday we scheduled a gender scan for July 16th in the Cork clinic. I really wanted to know the gender before my birthday shopping trip to Dublin on the 19th so I was lucky enough to get the appointment for when I did! Because the appointment was after work I thought it would be awkward getting Daniel to Cork for the scan, I asked my sister to come with me because I wanted her to see the baby scan and wanted her to be a part of the pregnancy because she was soon to be asked to be godmother (I asked her in Dublin at dinner :)).

So onto the scan itself. When you enter reception, there is no check in needed. A nurse comes out and calls you when your appointment time comes along or when the last appointment has ended. When you enter the scan room, there is a chair for your partner or guest and you lay on the table. The scan itself can be done from 18/19 weeks onwards. So your asked general questions like when is your due date etc. The sonographer was lovely, very bubbly and chatty. She showed us different parts of the baby like hands and feet and the little face. The gender scan also includes 3D view. When doing the scan the baby moved around quite a lot, unfortunately, she couldn't get the gender from the scan, so she advised I go to the waiting area and rub the left hand side of my stomach/lower down to move the baby's bum around so he'd stop blocking the scan! About 10 minutes later she called me in again and this time it was revealed that it's a boy! I couldn't clearly see the male genitalia but she did advise it was there ;) We got about 15 scans, some lovely 3D one's of his face and then full body regular scans. It was definitely worth the €99 fee. I would recommend the baby scan clinic's to anyone considering it.

Cost: Varies per scan but the gender scan was €99.
Rating: 9/10 (only thing that I didn't like was the amount of times the sonographer said baba ;)).
Location: The Cork clinic is located in Ballincollig behind the shopping centre in the medical centre.

Pregnancy Update: 35 Weeks

Hey dolls,

Only 5 weeks to go til my due date. We just finished our second Parent Craft Class yesterday. I found being tired really didn't help me concentrate! The second class focused on c-section, forceps and vacuum, dad's role, baby care, post-natal care and depression, and pelvic exercises. The dad's also got to experience changing baby clothes and nappies. I'm really glad Daniel got to do this because he had never done before and wanted the chance to practise before baby comes along!

How far along? 35 weeks
Total weight gain/measurement: I'm not sure! I haven't been weighed at any of my appointments since my 12 week check up. I weigh myself at my parents house when I stay there sometimes because we don't own a weighing scales here. I'm guessing I gained approx. a stone and a half in total.
Maternity clothes: Yes, as mentioned before all my maternity clothes are from either Asos or New Look. Being a 'plus size' woman it can be difficult to find maternity clothes that are comfortable, flattering and that fit well. I try to avoid 'bump fitting' tops. Before I became pregnant, I usually wore loose fitting tops and long in length too for comfort.
Stretch marks: Yes, stretch marks are there but there is no way to stop them totally. Overall I've gotten stretch marks on the inside of my knees, boobs, stomach and hips.
Sleep: I've been sleeping quite a lot to be honest, not very comfortably, I sleep from approx. 10 or 11 at night until the morning, I wake and go back to sleep and wake again around 12, The past few days I've been needing another 3 hours sleep, so I need to mention to my GP because I could be suffering from Anaemia!
Best moment's so far: The heating is now in our house! So just a case of finishing the bath tub fitting and tiling in the bathroom, flooring and insulation in the baby's nursery. And then we can finally get the house back to normal and sort the nursery! With only 5 weeks to go the pressure is on!
Miss anything? Normal body movements, alcohol(!) and energy!
Movement: This little guy still likes to poke his bum out, his movements aren't too frequent but it's been like this I guess the entire time so I'm not worried. I do feel him moving, squirming around in there but not loads.
Food cravings: Hmm, potato waffles! There yummy and quick to cook!
Anything making you queasy or sick? Movement makes me sick, my movement that is! If I'm putting on shoes, or getting dressed it can make me quite quesy and sometimes physically sick :(
Gender: Boy. When I first found out it was a boy I wasn't sure how to take it, but I've come around that I won't be buying headbands and tutu's! I'm happy and excited to see our cute little man :)
Labour signs: None this week luckily. I am feeling more pressure and more urgency to use the bathroom than before! With the baby movement pushing straight onto my bladder it doesn't help much ;)
Symptoms: Pelvic pressure, lack of energy and it's getting tougher to move around!
Belly button in or out? Bit of both, I can't see it anymore! I'm guessing it's a little more in than out :)
Swelling: I got swelling in my ankles when doing some house work the other day and then again in the shower last night :( Was not impressed! It's annoying knowing when the swelling is there because of the pain and discomfort my feet feel.
Happy or moody most of the time: A little down this week because I'm getting more and more anxious about the house (as you may know from Twitter ;)). At our parent craft class yesterday we had a talk from a woman who hosts post-natal depression support groups at the hospital each month, she discussed ante-natal depression which isn't well known or spoken about - I think I may have this :( We were told that this goes away when baby arrives! I am afraid I am at a higher risk of getting post natal depression because I had depression before I became pregnant, because of my job ending during my pregnancy and because I'm away from family and friends living where I do. I do have some friends and my boyfriends family nearby.
Looking forward to: Having the house sorted and the nursery all ready for baby! Also looking forward to a date night with Daniel when the house is sorted! We are going to go out for a meal and go see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the cinema :) Hopefully it will be next weekend :)

Pregnancy Update: 36 Weeks

Hey dolls,

I can't believe I'm posting my 36 week update! This is crazy. In 4 weeks my due date is upon us! I have an appointment where I will be assessed as usual (blood pressure etc.) and the fluid around the baby will be checked! Based on the results I will be advised of an induction date (usually 10 days from due date). I really hope I don't go over my due date by too much but I have tea searched ways to induce labour 'naturally' like spicy foods, raspberry leaf tea etc! So on with my update...

How far along? 36 weeks
Total weight gain/measurement: 1 stone 8/9 pounds (approximately)
Maternity clothes: Yes, I mainly chill around the house in comfy clothes. I only purchased 2 pairs of maternity jeans (navy and black), leggings and about 5 tops. I will try to do a post/review on some of the clothes I got!
Stretch marks: Yes, my already existing ones have become more purple ish coloured and more up my stomach than before.
Sleep: Very sh*tty! I don't sleep with a pillow or anything between my legs! I toss and turn a lot in my sleep, I think this is because we have a crappy mattress :( my hip gets sore if I lay on my side too long and laying on my back is not an option - this puts pressure on my back.
Best moment's so far: The baby pushing out so it shapes the bump weird! He mainly rests on re left side nowadays! Also the house is coming along, the nursery has a floor so I may have a nursery post up soon!
Miss anything? I miss walking normally! I have a very stiff left leg and so I tend to walk funny (the pregnancy wobble!). I also miss being comfortable, being able to move without moaning and being able to cuddle my partner comfortably :(
Movement: Plenty! He's been a little quiet the last 2 days but that's because I haven't been myself! But he does squirm and kick and move around so that's comforting and good :)
Food cravings: Not really! I craved waffles, mighty munch, chocolate, ice cream, gravy fries over the period of my pregnancy but at the moment I don't have any craving!
Anything making you queasy or sick? Movement - when I put socks or shoes on, funky smells and cleaning the house makes me sick feeling!
Gender: Boy, and I don't think this is changing any time soon ;)
Labour signs: None yet! I used to think this was a good thing! After having my 36 week checkup at the hospital I have no further appointment until my due date so this makes me think the doctor thinks I will go over my due date which is very disappointing to me :(
Symptoms: Tired, nauseous, lack of energy! I had planned to get a lot of housework done but I guess the nesting energy surge didn't quite hit me so I'll have to power through!
Belly button in or out? Out right now but it changes! It depends what way the baby is laying!
Swelling: My feet don't quite for into pumps comfortably anymore! My shoes are a little snug! But otherwise no obvious swelling!
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy to see the end of the house renovation road. Nervous, scared, happy, anxious, excited that this little bean is coming very soon! (Not soon enough) but I never thought I'd be saying I'm 36 weeks! It's insane!
Looking forward to: Holding our little creation, seeing Daniel's reaction to the baby, seeing the finished nursery and house. And getting to relax before bean arrives! And a date night coming soon!

Pregnancy Update: 34 Weeks

Hey dolls,

I can't believe there is only 6 weeks until my due date! That is such a scary thought! So myself and boyfriend/baby daddy or by name Daniel went to Parent Craft Classes in the Maternity Hospital (these are antenatal classes in Ireland). We got a list of what topics would be talked about in the class before attending so had some idea. When the class first began we had an ice-breaker, the mom said her name and how far along she was and the dad said what he wishes to get out of the class. In Ireland, you attend 2 classes, ours were yesterday and again next Thursday. I found the class worth attending, you can ask questions and become more prepared. We also got a video tour of the hospital and were advised of things I never knew about. I will note these below but lets get on with my update ;)

How far along? 34 weeks
Total weight gain/measurement: I would say around just over a stone altogether but this could be nearing the stone and half mark at this stage!
Maternity clothes: Yes, because I am now unemployed I can chill in PJ's at home some days but yes maternity wear is a must at this stage (I still fit into my own clothes though - t-shirts and leggings). I did notice that my bump is a lot smaller than others at 35 weeks!
Stretch marks: I've noticed some of my old stretch marks are starting to go red and blueish so I think they are re-stretching again! I have to get moisturising again like a religion because I really do think it helps.
Sleep: I toss and turn quite a lot and lying down in bed hurts, I cannot lie on my back at all any more, even for a few minutes relief for my back. My hip gets quite sore when I lie on my side for too long. I was very uncomfortable last night :( I slept through the night but when I eventually woke I was so tired I ended up just lying there watching YouTube for about 2 hours!
Best moment's so far: Still feeling movements is so nice and reassuring. Movements aren't too comfortable though because he does huge movements with not enough room!
Miss anything? I miss nights out ;) And lying down normally! I also miss an ole glass of Baileys and Milk - my Christmassy drink ;)
Movement: Yes, he likes his chill time, but he loves sticking his bum out too hahaha. I was told his head is in the correct position now, and so when I feel something sticking out it's either the hand, foot or bum and the placement makes me think it's his bum!
Food cravings: Nothing major, I don't have a huge appetite to be honest! I do get hungry but I don't crave anything in particular! I just eats whats here!
Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope, thank god! I hope it stays that way :)
Gender: It's a boy!
Labour signs: To be honest, I thought I was in early labour today! So scary. My boyfriend was at college and off doing jobs and I was home squirming whether to text him or not. I decided not to because I didn't want to unnecessarily freak him out, so I text my sister instead ;) hehe. Well it appears to be a false alarm.
Symptoms: I think today this little guy moved down toward my pelvis more, I am feeling a lot more pressure in my pelvis, which is very uncomfortable :(
Belly button in or out? Still in and out! A bit of both! I want it to stay in!
Swelling: Swelling has gone down a lot, I don't seem to get swelling in my ankles unless I walk for a while and am under a lot of pressure, my hands swell in the morning if I sleep on my arm!
Happy or moody most of the time: Stressed! I don't want to go into early labour. The house is still not done so no nursery yet, but rest assured the second I can I will be decorating a posting like a mad person!
Looking forward to: Decorating the nursery and getting the house back to normal :)

So onto new learning's from those Parent Craft Classes...
~ Reacting to different signs of labour e.g. losing the mucus plug is a sign of early labour but it could take a few days before labour begins properly - you can call the hospital when this occurs to reassure yourself.
~ Once your waters break, take note of the time it happens (because after 18 hours the hospital give you an antibiotic to avoid infection and after 3 days labour is induced if it isn't started on it's own).
~ Also, when your waters break and you record the time, use a maternity pad to help keep clean from the water leaking (something I didn't think of).
~ Annoyingly hospitals in Ireland don't give you an accurate time to go to the hospital when monitoring your contractions. We were given an approximate - when your contractions are 8 to 10 minutes apart and approx. 45 seconds to a minute long then you should make your way to the hospital.
~ Another annoying discovery, is that the maternity hospital has a birthing pool (known as immersion pool in Ireland) but you can only use it for labouring, and when your close to pushing you come out and give birth on a mat or in the bed! In this maternity hospital, there is one pool, it is drained, cleaned and sterilised and this takes about 10 minutes so your advised to say when you arrive if you want to use it, and you may or may not be able to use it depending on if someone is using it or not!
~ This hospital also has home away from home rooms, where the room is less technical and less hospital like and a bit more homely.

I'm also considering co-feeding baby between breastfeeding and bottle feeding and would love some more information about breastfeeding. I know it can be a touchy subject for a lot of people so I'm afraid to be inquisitive at our classes, it is on the list to discuss next week so I will have my questions ready for then :)

Any expectant mom's reading this? If so, where are you from, and how far along are you?

Pregnancy Update: 33 weeks

How far along? 33 weeks and 2 days
Total weight gain/measurement: I have no idea, a little more than a stone in total, I didn't realise but my bump is quite small and as some say 'neat'. I've been advised by my GP that baby is normal size for how far along I am so I'm hoping he remains that way and doesn't come out a huge baby!
Maternity clothes: Yes, my maternity clothes are all from New Look or Asos. I still wear my own pre-pregnancy clothes but have started to stop because I don't want to stretch them out!!
Stretch marks: I'm starting to notice I did get a few new stretch marks on my stomach! I don't moisturise as much as I should :( it's not a big deal for me because I hate stretch marks all over my stomach from gaining weight quick in a short amount of time!
Sleep: My sleep pattern is pretty unusual, I don't sleep through the night, every time I turn over I wake a little because of the discomfort! I have 1 bathroom break during the night that wakes me (obviously), and trying to go back to sleep is a nightmare. Also I spontaneously wake at some stage and find it hard to sleep again after! I've been told if I wake spontaneously that's the baby routine :( so hello 2am, 4am, 5am, 6am wake up calls!
Best moment's so far: I love feeling baby move, he now loves to go bananas when his daddy touches my bump :) which is super cute! Also, house renovations are in full swing so I should be able to get the nursery done soon :)
Miss anything? My body, sleeping or lying on my back, going on nights out, getting dressed up, and employment! My temp contract ended last Friday (32wk mark) and I've been so bored and having no or less income sucks :(
Movement: Varied! This little guy squirms, kicks, has a party and then goes quiet. I'm not worried because he moves every so often, not all the time so I put it down to him having a nap ;)
Food cravings: Mighty Munch! For those who don't know these are crisps. They are spiced and yummy. Not craving much or sending my boyfriend on midnight craving runs to the shop ;)
Anything making you queasy or sick? So I walked into the baby nursery where my boyfriend was varnishing wood and I got the wrong whiff of varnish and ended up throwing up for 10 minutes :( after some fresh air I'm fine again! Silly me :( nothing ales at the mo.
Gender: Boy :)
Labour signs: I had braxton hicks during my 32nd week! It happened around midnight for up to 2 hours! It felt so unusual and uncomfortable :(
Symptoms: None, and we hope it stays this way until at least 38 weeks ;)
Belly button in or out? Well, it's on it's way out :( if you rub the outside of my belly button, it's super soft, and lighter looking! You can tell it's the skin from inside my belly button! If my bump is hard it looks out but when it's soft it looks normal!
Swelling: Hands yes in the morning, ankles yes when I'm after walking a bit, otherwise not much :)
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy but fed up! I'm bored and want to start getting this house on track! I want to start the nursery and get it ready, and I also want to clean and organise the house so I can pack our hospital bags!!
Looking forward to: Getting the nursery ready and done :) I'm excited to see the finished result because we're planning it for so long!

I hope to have enough time between when the nursery is done and the baby arrives to do posts on the nursery and hospital bag contents!

Quick update

Hi dolls,

This is just a quick update, I will have more in tomorrow's 33 week update, but wanted to do a quick post to let ye know that I haven't been posting many baby hauls or beauty hauls because we are erring ready for baby and haven't had much chance to take pics for posts :(

Currently all Baby Fitz's clothes are in our wardrobe in shopping bags as we are renovating the house so baby's nursery is no where near ready! I'm giving it 4 weeks until it's all done (fingers and toes crossed!).

I haven't really worn much makeup or had my nails done much throughout my pregnancy! My nails began rejecting gel nails in July (around 24 weeks mark) and so I stopped getting my nails done! Also, painting my nails was annoying because I'd be painting them almost every second day to avoid chipping!!

I did buy the new Benefit's Cheeky Sweet Spot Kit last weekend! I was so excited! I'm not sure I love the outter packaging but I am so excited to have my favourite blushes in one palette! It's so much easier for travel rather to carry around the individual boxes! I also recently purchased a new mascara but other than that I haven't bought much as I haven't needed to! I have a long wish list but with a baby on the way new makeup purchases will probably go on hold for a while! My lil man will take priority I'm afraid!

I will do FOTD and makeup looks again when the baby is born, hopefully starting up again in January on a roll and keep it up :) I will also do update posts and other stuff I've done in the past :) so keep an eye on my twitter, blog and Instagram :)

Only 7 weeks until my due date and I'm not sure at the moment if his baby will wait that long!!

Lots of love
